"Bobby"
Bobby is currently 12 years old
September 2025 - roughly 12 years old when I first found Bobby
In September 2025, a skinny, black, male cat with a bobbed tail showed up in my neighborhood.
He seemed really sweet, but at the time I was down to just one cat - my 15-year old
"Cali" who was suffering from pancreatitis and IBD. Everytime one of my beloved cats (and I've had several) gets old and dies,
it just breaks my heart too much. So I was not wanting another cat - I was wanting to have a few years with no pets.
But this boy needed help. He was beyond skinny - he was skeletal! So I put him in my backyard cat enclosure, and
I began feeding him. My hope was to find him a good home. I named him "Bobby" due to his bobbed tail. I took
him to my vet to get checked out, and thankfully he was negative for FIV, Feline Leukemia, etc. But Bobby was very hyperthyroid which
causes cats to lose weight. So he only weighed 7.8 pounds which is way too thin for his long frame. My vet
guessed that Bobby was roughly 12 years old. It was still very hot that time of year outside, so I moved him inside from the
outdoor enclosure, and made him a temporary home in my guest bedroom - still thinking that once I get him a bit more
healthy I'll find him a permanent forever home.
After just two months of giving Bobby plenty of food and daily thyroid meds, he gained five pounds - and his
coat became soft & silky. And, of course, he crawled into my heart. So I made him a permanent member of my family.
Unfortunately, my cat Cali did not care for him at all. She has never liked male cats, so this was not unexpected.
I tried pheromone sprays & diffusers, slow introductions, etc. Nothing worked. So I divided my house in two - Cali gets the front
half, and Bobby the back half. Since both cats are older with different medical issues, having the house divided actually
helps me feed them their special diets separately, and I can keep an eye on their little box habits easier too.
November 2025 - age 12 years
My friend Nancy playing with Bobby. After being in my house for just two months, Bobby had already gained nearly 5 pounds!
December 2025 - age 12 years
After being in my house for a couple of months, Bobby began crying and pacing the floor at night. The access to my main
outdoor cat enclosure is in the front part of the house with Cali, so I built Bobby a small enclosure off of my bedroom window - and
that solved the nighttime crying issue! I think he had been wanting some outdoor time at night.
January 2026 - age 12 years
What a handsome boy!
